Make your day off for Martin Luther King Jr. Day a day ON of service. Volunteers, families, business, school and faith-based service groups: The Volunteer Center and The Kindness Connection invite communities members to join them on Martin Luther King Day, Monday, January 15, from 1 to 4 p.m. at The Winnetka Community House, 620 Lincoln Avenue, Winnetka, to help more than a dozen nonprofits with seven different fun and helpful projects for all ages and abilities. A variety of hands-on projects for the homeless, vets, children, refugees animals and more.
Important repeat feature this year – Speak Out! Participants are encouraged to share their perspectives all afternoon in an open mic setting about Martin Luther King, civil liberties and how we can unite together to achieve equality and understanding. Discuss your thoughts in a respectful, productive and if you’d like, creative manner. Recite something you or another author has written or speak or sing extemporaneously. All ages and abilities encouraged to attend and participate.
Bring your Service groups, friends, your children and grandchildren and make a difference for thousands in need. Over 700 people from the North Shore and metro Chicago area participate each year in this MLK Day of Service.
There are no fees or reservations to attend. All project materials are provided except those wishing to make blankets must bring 4 yards of fleece fabric and fabric scissors. A donation of laundry detergent is also welcome for the NTT Food Pantry clients and gently used warm coats or boots for refugees.
