WINNETKA – New Trier High School is seeking community members or alumni who are interested in assisting New Trier Career Services, a program that provides students with career exploration services and connects them with professionals in their areas of interest.
Interested professionals can help with Career Services in the following capacities:
- Visiting a New Trier classroom as a guest speaker, panel discussion participant, mock interviewer, etc.
- Hosting a student at their workplace for a day of job shadowing
- Hosting a student at their workplace as a paid or nonpaid summer intern
- Meeting with a student for an informational interview about their professional field
- Part-time and summer employment opportunities for New Trier students
Volunteers can also become a Community Sponsor for a student’s Senior Project, a program open to all seniors that allows students to design and complete their own experiential learning project—similar to an internship—during the last four weeks of the year. Senior Project participants work with the Career Services coordinators, a New Trier faculty or staff member and a community sponsor to help oversee their Senior Project and develop their proposal. Upon completion of their project, students take part in a two-day exhibition open to the public, where all Senior Projects are displayed.
The Career Services office seeks to guide students through self-analysis, career exploration and educational goal-setting in partnership with students’ advisers and post-high school counselors, said Career Services Coordinators Melissa Duffy and Steve Belford. Students also get help with resume writing and interviewing skills and attend career fairs and field trips.
Community members and alumni who are interested in working with Career Services can fill out the following form to contact coordinators Melissa Duffy and Steve Belford: https://goo.gl/HmbWsx.
