WILMETTE – Someone tried to pry open the front door of a home in the 3400 block of Riverside Drive then used brute force on a rear door, which sett off the residential burglary alarm, according to the Wilmette Police Department. The offender, as yet unknown, did not gain entry into the home. This happened between 6:45 p.m. and 7:06 p.m. on Friday, February 9.
There were other recent break-ins, according to the WPD.
Residential Burglary
On Friday, February 2, between 7:30 p.m. and 8:50 p.m., unknown suspect(s) pried and forced the rear door of a home in the 600 block of Pine Street. This likely occurred shortly after the resident left the home at 7:30 p.m.. The resident reported that nothing appeared to have been taken.
Motor Vehicle Theft
Overnight between Friday, February 2 and Saturday, February 3, unknown offenders stole a 2012 Cadillac that was parked on the street in the 1600 block of Walnut Avenue. The owner had left the fob in the vehicle. The stolen vehicle was subsequently recovered unoccupied in Chicago.
Burglary to Motor Vehicle
During the overnight hours of Sunday, February 11 and Monday, February 12, unknown offender(s) entered four (4) unlocked vehicles but appeared to have taken nothing. The vehicles were parked in the 800 block of Chilton Lane and the 900 block of Oxford Lane.
Between 8 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, Februarys 1, unknown offender(s) broke into two vehicles that were parked in the parking lot of Centennial Park, 2300 Old Glenview Road. The offender(s) broke side windows of the vehicles to get a tote bag in one vehicle and a purse in the other vehicle. Both of these items were left in the passenger compartment.
The Wilmette police recommend that you always remember to:
- remove your vehicle’s keys / fob
- lock up your vehicle
- never leave valuables in view
