WILMETTE – The Wilmette Historical Museum on June 10 will host the opening of a new exhibit, “Dancing for My Tribe: Potawatomi Tradition in Modern Times.”
This exhibit of dramatic, large-format photographic portraits of Potawatomi Indians in their modern dance regalia is the story of a modern people who live in a world of sewing machines, duct tape and acrylics and reflects the personal stories of Potawatomi people today.
The opening is on Sunday, June 10 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Wilmette History Museum, 609 Ridge Road in Wilmette. The exhibit will run through September 17.
The photographer, Sharon Hoogstraten, is a Chicago resident and a descendant of the Ouilmette family after whom the village of Wilmette is named. She will be on hand at the exhibit opening for a short introduction at 2:30 p.m.
