Chip Shots: Radler stars as LA wins Warren Invite

Just another player to watch on this Loyola Academy golf team.

Radler, a sophomore, shot a 70 to earn medalist honors in the highly competitive Warren Invite on Aug. 27 at Bittersweet Golf Club.

Highland Park’s Bradley Goldstein recorded a 73 to earn runner-up honors. LA’s Connor Prassas placed third overall with a 74.

The efforts of Radler and Prassas helped the Ramblers to a first-place finish in the team standings. They shot a 296, which was seven strokes better than three-time reigning Class 3A state champ Hinsdale Central. Lake Forest (305), Mundelein (307) and Highland Park (312) rounded out the top five.

LA also received solid performances from Chip Savarie (76), John Kryscio (76), Ben Scherman (77) and Reb Banas (78).

Lake Forest was on its game, as well. Five Scouts shot 78 or better: Scott Frevert (75), Nick San Miguel (76), Mike Seaman (75), Jed Thomas (78) and Connor Polender (78). Frevert shared fourth place with Hinsdale Central standouts Brendan O’Reilly and Sam Stapleton.

HP’s other scorers were Jared Grossmann (78), Charlie Ezgur (80) and Josh Zoldan (81).

 HP’s Ezgur finishes in top four at Lake County Meet

Lake County Invite: Highland Park and Lake Forest wound up in a tie for fourth place at the Lake County Invite at Fox Lake Country Club on Aug. 22. Warren tallied a 297 to win the title, three strokes better than Mundelein, four shots better than Stevenson, and nine strokes better than HP and LF.

HP was led by Charlie Ezgur (4th place tie, 73) and Bradley Goldstein (6th place tie, 74). The team’s other scorers were Joey Harrigan (78) and Max Golding (81).

Jason Folker and Danny Geldermann shot 74s to lead Lake Forest. Scott Frevert and Nick San Miguel came up with 79s.

Prassas, LA on a hot streak

Barrington Invite: Okay, things are good right now for Connor Prassas.

Very good.

A few days ago, the Loyola Academy senior announced his commitment to the University of Michigan. And right now, Prassas certainly is playing like a champion.

Prassas, who appears to love the golf courses in Barrington, claimed medalist honors at the Barrington Invite on Aug. 16 at the Wynstone Country Club. He also took first place in the season-opening Hersey Invite on Aug. 15 (see below).

This summer, Prassas won the Illinois State Amateur … at Barrington’s Makray Memorial.

Prassas shot a 67 at Wynstone and led the Ramblers to a first-place finish (280) over Hinsdale Central (283), Lake Forest (289), New Trier (291) and Barrington (293) in a field of 10 teams.

Chip Savarie came in third with a 69 behind Hinsdale Central’s Josh Lundmark. John Kryscio and Ben Scherman added 72s for the Ramblers.

Lake Forest received strong outings from Jason Folker (70) and Jed Thomas (70). The other players shooting that popular score included New Trier’s Justin Choi, Barrington’s Tom Calbi and Hinsdale Central’s Mac McClear.

LF’s scoring was rounded out by Nick San Miguel (73) and John Zeeman (76). NT’s other scorers were Will Nummy, who tied Hinsdale Central’s Brendan O’Reilly for ninth place with a 71, Michael Tanaka (72) and Edward Seol (78).

Loyola Academy wins Raider Classic going away

Bloomington Raider Classic: Not. Even. Close.

Loyola Academy won the Raider Classic at The Den at Fox Creek Golf Course in Bloomington by 16 strokes on Aug. 17.

LA shot a 292 to easily beat Glenbard West and Mundelein. Four Ramblers ended up with 73s on the IHSA Class 3A state meet course. Connor Prassas, John Kryscio, Chip Savarie and Ben Scherman shared fourth place with two other players: Champaign Central’s Conor Butts and Bloomington Central Catholic’s Parker Wisdom.

Mundelein’s Tyler White claimed medalist honors (71). Mundelein’s Ryan Magee (72) and Rockton Hononegah’s Ethan Neumer (72) shared runner-up honors.

Prassas, Ramblers impressive at Hersey Invite

Hersey Invite: On fire.

Loyola Academy turned in an extremely impressive performance in the season opening Hersey Invite on Aug. 15 at Rolling Green Country Club. Five players finished in the top 10: Connor Prassas (1st, 69), Chip Savarie (2nd, 70), Ben Scherman (7th, 75), Reb Banas (9th, 76) and John Kryscio (10th, 76).

The Ramblers (290) wound up beating runner-up Glenbrook South (302) by 12 strokes. Kevin Paek led the Titans with a third-place finish (71). The team had 77s from Jarrett Prchal, Robert Hopkins and Jack Grier.

Glenbrook North came in sixth on the leaderboard with a 320. Matt Chapman shot a 77, while Quinn McCarthy had a 78. Henry Knez added an 82.

Choi, San Miguel stand out at Woodstock Invite

Woodstock Invite: New Trier’s Justin Choi and Lake Forest’s Nick San Miguel shot 74s to lead the field at the Woodstock Invite at Bull Valley Golf Club on Aug. 18.

Choi’s effort helped NT to a second-place finish behind Barrington, 309-310. San Miguel and the Scouts shared third-place (311) with Glenbrook South. Highland Park came in fifth (319) in the 13-team field.

GBS’s Charlie Nikitas and LF’s Jason Folker shot 75s to share third place with St. Charles East’s Connor King.

New Trier’s Will Nummy and GBS’s Kevin Paek recorded 77s to finish in a five-way tie for seventh place.

New Trier’s other scorers were Michael Adler (79) and Michael Tanaka (80).

Lake Forest had three players — Jed Thomas, Scott Frevert and Michael Seaman — shoot 81s.

GBS received a 79 from Jack Grier and an 80 from Jarrett Prchal.

Highland Park was led by Bradley Goldstein (79), Joey Harrigan (79), Jared Grossman (80) and Ari Herzog (81).

Choi shot a 35 on the back nine. He finished the outing with four birdies. San Miguel came up with a 36 on the front nine. He also had five birdies, including one on the 18th hole.
