WILMETTE – Dr. Joy DeGruy is a dynamic speaker and educator whose practical insights about race relations have gone viral. She will speak on Wednesday, October 5, at the Baha’i House of Worship, addressing the roots of racism and offering paths to healing and justice.

Dr. DeGruy backs up her everyday wisdom with scholarly research. Her recent book Post-Traumatic Slave Syndrome explores the impact of slavery’s collective wound on current generations.

How can we listen and bear deep pain? How can we remedy systemic injustice? How can we repair and strengthen what connects us?

Dr. DeGruy provides some answers. She will share a practical framework for rebuilding our fractured communities. She will also highlight the contributions of seminal African-American Bahá’í leaders, including Alain Locke, who catalyzed the Harlem Renaissance, and pioneering stateswoman Elsie Austin.

The foundation of the Bahá’í Faith is oneness. Bahá’ís believe all religions and peoples spring from one source: “Since We have created you all from one same substance it is incumbent on you to be even as one soul…”
