New Trier Regional
— Al-ameen Salako came up with the game-winner as host New Trier edged Niles North 1-0 in a Class 3A regional semifinal game on Oct. 18.
Salako was assisted by Matt Underwood.
Sam Warden earned the shutout in goal for the Trevians (10-6-4). He had four saves.
Maine West Regional
— In the Class 3A semifinal round of the Maine West Regional on Oct. 18, Glenbrook North advanced and Glenbrook South did not.
GBN, ranked No. 1 in the Maine East Sectional, picked up win No. 20 on the season. The 20-1-1 Spartans topped Prospect 3-0.
Meanwhile, GBS fell to host Maine West 4-1.
The Titans finished the season 13-4-5.
Deerfield Regional
— Highland Park was eliminated from postseason, when it fell to host Deerfield 2-1 in the regional quarterfinal game on Oct. 15.
HP’s lone goal was scored by Tommy Quirk.
The Giants finished the 2016 campaign with a 5-14-2 record.
Fremd Regional
— Lake Forest saw its season come to a close with a 5-1 setback to host Fremd in a Class 3A regional quarterfinal on Oct. 15.
The Scouts ended up 3-13-2 on the season.
Glenbrook South 1, Prospect 1
— Glenbrook South battled visiting Prospect to a 1-1 tie on Oct. 13.
Off a feed from Danny Cleary, Alec Leach scored the lone goal for the Titans (13-3-5).
Waukegan 1, Highland Park 0
— Highland Park dropped a 1-0 decision to visiting Waukegan on Oct. 13. The Giants finished the regular season with a 5-13-2 record.
New Trier 7, Timothy Christian 2
— New Trier’s offense shifted into high gear in its 7-2 victory over Timothy Christian on Oct. 13.
Kenji Nii and Matt Gallo led the outburst with two goals apiece. Nii’s goals came on penalty kicks.
Will Felitto, Michael Neuhaus and Logan Weaver scored the other goals.
Ryan Krueger and Al-ameen Salako had two assists each. Riles Walsh had the other helper for the Trevians (9-6-4).
Lake Forest Academy 5, Lake Forest 1
— Ian Strudwick tallied two goals as host Lake Forest Academy took down Lake Forest 5-1 on Oct. 13.
LFA’s other goals were scored by Carlo Castillo, Stephen Kostov and Mitch Stott.
JJ Gray and Nat Shattock were credited with the assists on Strudwick’s goals. Strudwick assisted on Castillo’s goal, while Logan Shaughnessy came up with the helper on Stott’s goal. Kostov’s goal came on a penalty kick.
Lake Forest’s goal was scored by Daniel Hanson.
LFA improved to 10-4-3.
Loyola 1, Niles North 0
— Jack McMenamin recorded his eighth shutout of the season in Loyola’s 1-0 victory over host Niles North on Oct. 12.
Off a feed from Nick Roscoe, Collin Leider scored the game’s lone goal with 18 minutes left in the game.
It was the 15th win of the season for LA (15-4-1).
Glenbrook South 6, Grayslake North 1
— Five different Glenbrook South players — Grady Bruch, Jimmy McMahon, Danny Cleary, Will Jones and Jonathan Lee — scored in its 6-1 victory over host Grayslake North on Oct. 11.
McMahon had two goals.
Cleary, Max Klemm and Josh Shin had the assists.
Loyola 4, Francis Parker 2
— Goals by Julian Hilpusch, Matt Salter, New Lew and Nick Roscoe sparked Loyola to a 4-2 win over host Francis Parker on Oct. 8.
David Gripman came up with two assists. Collin Leider also had a helper as the Ramblers improved to 14-4-1.
Glenbrook North 3, Maine South 0
— The winning continues for Glenbrook North.
Led by Jackson Grabill and Timmy Iscra, the host Spartans downed Maine South 3-0 in the Central Suburban League championship on Oct. 7.
Grabill scored an unassisted goal to put the Spartans (17-1-1) ahead 1-0.
Iscra put the game out of reach with two goals. He was assisted by Ryan Golde and Max Knebelkamp.
Gabe Zorilla earned the shutout in goal.
Glenbrook South 2, Vernon Hills 0
— Goals by Gave Diculescu and Max Klemm lifted Glenbrook South to a 2-0 victory over host Vernon Hills in a CSL crossover game on Oct. 7.
Danny Cleary assisted Diculescu. Jeremy Weber set up Klemm.
Chase Swaringen and Mike Hatfield shared the shutout in goal for the 12-3-4 Titans.
Evanston 3, Highland Park 2
— The goals are adding up for Highland Park’s Tommy Quirk. The senior standout had two goals in HP’s 3-2 setback to visiting Evanston on Oct. 6 in a CSL crossover contest.
With the loss, the Giants slipped to 5-12-2 overall.
Loyola 4, Lake Forest 0
— Loyola improved to 13-4-1 with a 4-0 victory over visiting Lake Forest on Oct. 6.
Assisted by Julian Hilpusch and Nick Roscoe, Nick Lew came up with LA’s first goal.
Hilpusch made it 2-0 on a feed from Collin Leider. Hilpusch also was credited with assists on goals scored by David Gripman and Ford Peterson.
Jack McMenamin had two saves and recorded his sixth shutout of the season.
Grayslake Central 5, Highland Park 2
— Tommy Quirk scored both goals in Highland Park’s 5-2 loss to visiting Grayslake Central on Oct. 5.
Loyola 4, Fenwick 2
— Loyola earned a 4-2 victory over host Fenwick on Oct. 4.
LA’s goals were scored by Sean Hickey, Julian Hilpusch, Nick Roscoe and Ford Peterson.
David Gripman ended the game with two assists. Matt Salter also was credited with an assist.
Stevenson 2, New Trier 0
— In a nonconference game on Oct. 4, New Trier dropped a 2-0 decision to visiting Stevenson.
NT is now 8-6-4 on the season.
Gateway Classic
— Glenbrook North added three more victories to its ledger (15-1-1) while competing in the Gateway Classic in St. Louis.
The Spartans capped off the three-game set with a 5-1 triumph over Reitz Memorial of Indiana on Oct. 1. The offense was led by Sahil Modi, who finished the contest with four goals. Deng Deng had the other goal to go along with an assist. Robbie Fraser had two assists, while Timmy Iscra added the other helper.
In earlier tourney action, GBN took care of Dunbar, Kentucky 3-0 and Francis Howell Central 4-0.
Jackson Grabill had two goals in the win over Dunbar. Kamil Barabas also scored, while Modi had an assist.
Against Francis Howell, Grabill, Iscra, Modi and Alex Kahn did the scoring. Modi and Grabill added assists.
Gabe Zorilla and Daniel Spencer were the goalies.
Gateway Classic
— Glenbrook South left St. Louis with a 3-0 record after beating Belton, Missouri 2-1 on Oct. 1 in a championship game in the Gateway Classic. Max Klemm and Danny Cleary scored in the win. They were assisted by David Joseph and Gavin Morse, respectively.
The Titans (11-3-4) also picked up victories against Washington 3-0 and Belleville West 6-0.
Klemm, Will Jones and Philip Martin were the goal scorers against Washington. Martin and Grady Bruch had the helpers. Martin’s goal came on a penalty kick.
Against Belleville West, GBS scored three times in each half. The first-half goals were put in by Klemm, Bruch and Jimmy McMahon. Cleary, Danny Shin and Josh Shin had the second-half goals.
The assists were credited to Bruch, Martin, Cleary (2) and Gabe Diculescu.
Gateway Classic
— Highland Park opened the Gateway Classic in St. Louis in fine fashion on Sept. 30, when the Giants downed Columbia Hickman (Missouri) 2-0. Tommy Quirk and Ethan Ochoa tallied HP’s goals. Mason Kimbarovsky assisted both goals.
In tourney action on Oct. 1, HP (5-10-2) lost a 3-2 contest to Evansville Memorial (Indiana), while the Giants ended up playing Dunbar Lexington (Kentucky) to a 0-0 tie.
Against Evansville, Quirk and Ambrosio Toledo scored the goals. Alan Castillo was credited with an assist.
Against Dunbar, Roi Lavy earned a shutout in goal.
Buffalo Grove 1, Lake Forest 0
— Host Lake Forest were defeated by visiting Buffalo Grove 1-0 on Oct. 1.
New Trier 1, Niles West 0
— With its 1-0 victory over host Niles West on Sept. 30, New Trier ended up as co-champions in the CSL South.
Both NT and Maine South finished the league season with 3-0-2 records.
Riles Walsh scored the game-winner for the Trevians (8-5-4 overall) in their triumph over Niles West. He was assisted by Michael Neuhaus.
Sam Warden was credited with 12 saves in goal for NT.
St. Ignatius 1, Loyola 0
— A rarity.
For only the second time this season, Loyola was unable to dent the scoreboard.
As a result, the Ramblers (11-4-1, 4-2-0) were defeated 1-0 by visiting St. Ignatius on Sept. 29.
Waukegan 5, Lake Forest 0
— Host Lake Forest (3-8-2) fell to Waukegan on Sept. 29.
New Trier 1, Evanston 1
The fire hydrant was on the line.
And Evanston retained it by finishing in a 1-1 tie against host New Trier on Sept. 29.
Louis Shaw came up with New Trier’s lone goal on a direct free kick.
NT goalie Sam Rutherford allowed a goal but made six saves.
With the tie, the Trevians’ record moved to 7-5-4.
Glenbrook North 7, Vernon Hills 0
— For the second time in four days, Glenbrook North put a 7 on the scoreboard.
On Sept. 27, the host Spartans shut down Vernon Hills 7-0 in CSL North action to improved their overall record to 12-1-1.
Alex Kahn had two goals for GBN. The other goal scorers were Timmy Iscra, Sahil Modi, Robbie Fraser, Jack Grabill and Deng Deng.
Grabill, Deng, Ryan Golde, Matt Metzger and Sam Heydt had the assists.
Gabe Zorilla and Daniel Spencer shared the shutout.
Glenbrook South 3, Niles West 0
— Jeremy Weber, Max Klemm and Damian Pudelko scored the goals as Glenbrook South defeated host Niles West 3-0 on Sept. 27.
Grady Burch, Will Jones and Josh Shin contributed the assists.
Chase Swaringren and Mike Hatfield shared the shutout in goal for the Titans (8-3-4).
Highland Park 1, Deerfield 1
— Highland Park and visiting Deerfield played to a 1-1 tie on Sept. 27.
HP’s lone goal was scored by Rodrigo Pozo on a rebound shot, following a diving stop by Deerfield sophomore goalie Ryan Grady on a rocket shot by Tommy Quirk.
The Giants had their chances in the second half but couldn’t finish against the Deerfield goalkeeper, who made a number of stellar stops, including one with 15 seconds left to play.
Deerfield’s goal was scored by Nikita Bankevich.
Mount Carmel 4, Loyola 1
— Loyola had a tough outing against visiting Mount Carmel on Sept. 27.
The Ramblers dropped a 4-1 decision. Their lone goal was scored by Julian Hilpusch on a penalty kick.
The team fell to 11-3-1 overall and 4-1 in league play.
New Trier 0, Maine South 0
— Sam Rutherford made four saves in goal as visiting New Trier played Maine South to a 0-0 tie in CSL South action on Sept. 27.
Glenbrook North 7, Lake Forest 0
— Jackson Grabill tallied two goals to help Glenbrook North defeat host Lake Forest 7-0 on Sept. 24. GBN (11-1-1) also received goals from Deng Deng, Timmy Iscra, Moe Lasso, Mykah Netsky and Sam Heydt. Deng, Netzky, Alex Kahn and Andrew Kwolek had the assists.

The tide has turned.
All of a sudden, New Trier has become a hard team to beat. The Trevians improved to 7-5-2 by downing visiting Loyola 1-0 on Sept. 23. It was the team’s fourth straight win.
Ryan Krueger’s unassisted goal was the difference in the game.
Sam Warden starred in goal. He recorded the shutout on four saves.
It was only the second loss of the season for Loyola (11-2-1).
Glenbrook North 4, Maine East 1
— Four different players — Timmy Iscra, Robbie Fraser, Moe Lasso and Sahil Modi — scored as Glenbrook North (10-1-1) took down host Maine East 4-1 on Sept. 22.
Kamil Barabas finished the game with two assists. The other assists were credited to Iscra, Jackson Grabill and Alex Kahn.
The winning goalie was Gabe Zorilla.
Glenbrook South 1, Maine South 1
— Glenbrook South and visiting Maine South played to a 1-1 draw on Sept. 22.
GBS’s lone tally was scored by Grady Bruch on an assist from Max Klemm in the 44th minute.
Twenty-two minutes later, Maine South came up with the equalizer.
Chase Swaringen and Mike Hatfield shared time in goal for GBS (7-3-4).
Highland Park 4, Maine West 3
— Tommy Quirk, Alejandro Cruz, Alan Castillo and Mason Kimbarovsky scored the goals as Highland Park edged host Maine West 4-3 on Sept. 22.
Quirk also came up with two assists for the Giants (4-9-0, 2-2-0).
New Trier 2, Niles North 0
— Highlighted by goals scored by Will Felitto and Kenji Nii, New Trier defeated host Niles North 2-0 on Sept. 22.
Nii’s goal came on a penalty kick. Ryan Krueger assisted Felitto’s goal.
Sam Rutherford earned the shutout in goal. He had two saves.
Loyola 4, Brother Rice 1
— Four different players scored as Loyola took care of host Brother Rice 4-1 on Sept. 22.
David Gripman came up with a head-turning play, when he dribbled around four defenders to score an unassisted goal and put the Ramblers ahead 1-0.
Julian Hilpusch picked up LA’s second goal on a header off a cross from Matt Salter.
Hilpusch also set up the team’s third goal, which was scored by Sean Hickey.
Jonas Madison added the final tally off a feed from Charlie Pasquesi.
The win pushed LA’s record to 11-1-1 overall and 4-0 in league action.
Glenbrook North 7, Highland Park 0
— Timmy Iscra. Jackson Grabill and Sahil Modi scored two goals each as host Glenbrook North downed Highland Park 7-0 on Sept. 20.
The Spartans (9-1-1) also received a goal from Sam Heydt. Kamil Barabas had two assists, while the other helpers was credited to Grabill and Matt Metzger.
Gabe Zorilla (3 saves) and Daniel Spencer (2 saves) shared the shutout in goal.

— David Gripman scored the deciding goal as Loyola edged visiting St. Joseph 1-0 on Sept. 20.
Jack McMenamin made three saves and picked up his fifth shutout of the season.
New Trier 2, Glenbrook South 2
— Goals by Al-ameen Salako and Michael Neuhaus allowed host New Trier to snatch a 2-1 win over Glenbrook South in the CSL South opener on Sept. 20.
Salako’s goal was assisted by Logan Weaver. Neuhaus was set up by Kenji Nii.
Sam Rutherford earned the win in goal. The NT junior had six saves.
GBS’s lone goal was scored by David Joseph. Alec Leach had the assist.
With the loss, GBS is now 7-3-3 on the season.
Lake Forest 2, Lake Zurich 2
— Lake Forest ended up in a 2-2 tie with host Lake Zurich on Sep. 20.
Daniel Hanson scored his first goal of the season on an assist by Richard Mercer. Christian McCauley got the team’s other goal. It was unassisted.
Glenbrook South 3, Lake Forest 0
— Grady Bruch had a big say in this win.
The senior had a foot in all three of Glenbrook South’s goals on Sept. 17 at Lake Forest.
Bruch had one goal and two assists as the Titans topped the host Scouts 3-0 in a nonconference affair.
GBS did all of its scoring in the second half. Josh Shin and Will Jones had the other goals.
Goalies Chase Swaringen and Mike Hatfield shared the shutout.
LF freshman goalie John Walsh finished the outing with 12 saves.
GBS improved to 7-2-3. LF fell to 2-6-1.
Warren 5, Highland Park 0
— Despite possessing the ball for more than 65 percent of the game, Highland Park (3-8) fell to host Warren 5-0 on Sept. 17.
Loyola 3, St. Laurence 2
— Julian Hilpusch scored twice as Loyola Academy defeated host St. Laurence 3-2 on Sept. 15 to improved its record to 9-1-1 (2-0-0 in conference play).
Hilpusch scored the game-winner, when he trapped a pass from Matt Salter and volleyed it into the net with 12 minutes left in regulation.
Hilpusch’s other score came on penalty kick after teammate Nick Lew was dragged down in the box.
Daniel Montaquila opened the scoring for the Ramblers, when his shot to the far post deflected off a St. Laurence player and landed into the net.
Jack McMenamin came up with four clutch saves to secure the win.
Niles North 1, Glenbrook South 0
— Visiting Niles North handed Glenbrook South a 1-0 loss on Sept. 15.
Alec Leach and Grady Bruch had shots on goal for the Titans (6-2-3)
Maine East 2, Highland Park 1
— Highland Park dropped a home Central Suburban League North Division game to Maine East 2-1 on Sept. 15.
Mason Kimbarovsky scored HP’s lone goal on a feed from Alan Castillo.
PepsiCo Showdown
— New Trier evened its record to 4-4-3 with a 2-1 victory over Lincoln-Way East on Sept. 15 in final round action of the PepsiCo Showdown.
Junior JoJo Farina scored his first varsity goal, while junior Ryan Krueger came up with his second game-winning goal of the season.
Junior Will Felitto assisted both scores. He now has a team-best six assists on the season.
Sam Warden earned the win in goal. He allowed one goal while making four stops.
Libertyville 2, Lake Forest 1
— Riley Perkofski was busy.
Extremely busy.
The Lake Forest goalkeeper recorded 13 saves in his team’s 2-1 setback to visiting Libertyville on Sept. 15.
Offensively, Taddeo Galli tallied his third goal of the season. He was assisted by Richard Mercer.
The Scouts are now 2-5-1 on the season.
Glenbrook North 3, Maine West 1

HP’s other score came on an own goal by the Cougars.
It was a much-needed win for the Giants (3-6), snapping a four-game losing streak.
Loyola 1, Marmion Academy 0
— Off a feed from David Gripman, Sean Hickey scored the game’s lone goal as Loyola Academy held off visiting Marmion Academy 1-0 on Sept. 13.
Jack McMenamin had three saves and registered his fourth shutout of the season for the Ramblers (8-1-1).
PepsiCo Showdown
— New Trier fell to Lane Tech 2-0 in the second round of the PepsiCo Showdown on Sept. 13.
The Trevians are now 3-4-3 on the season.
Glenbrook North 2, Glenbrook South 0
— Timmy Iscra, a senior midfielder, scored both goals as visiting Glenbrook North defeated Glenbrook South 2-0 on Sept. 10.
With the win, GBN improved to 7-1-1 on the season. GBS is now 6-1-2.
PepsiCo Showdown
— New Trier came oh so close to winning its opener in the PepsiCo Showdown on Sept. 10.
The Trevians (3-3-3) lost their contest to Metea Valley on penalty kicks. The two teams battled to a 2-2 tie before the game was decided on PKs (4-2).
NT’s first goal was scored by Grant Johnson on an assist from Michael Neuhaus. Matt Gallo added a goal on a PK.
Loyola 2, Notre Dame 1
— Loyola improved its record to 7-1-1 by downing visiting Notre Dame 2-1 on Sept. 9. Matt Salter scored the Ramblers’ first goal, while Jilian Hilpusch came up with the game-winner.

— This game was scoreless for 58 minutes.
But then, host Glenbrook South took over and claimed a 3-0 victory over Highland Park on Sept. 8. Philip Martin was the star of the game. The GBS senior midfielder popped in a pair of rocket shots past Highland Park goalie Alex Bramson.
GBS’s final goal was scored by Jeremy Weber on an assist by Martin.
Martin’s first goal was unassisted. He was assisted by Grady Bruch on his second goal.
Chase Swaringen earned the shutout in goal for the Titans.
Highland Park goalie Alex Bramson recorded nine saves.
HP is now 2-6 on the season.

— Two goals by Jilian Hilpusch did the trick as Loyola slipped past host St. Francis on Sept. 8.

— Unassisted goals by Deng Deng and Sahil Modi lifted Glenbrook North to a 2-1 triumph over host Maine South on Sept. 6.
Gabe Zorilla had three saves in goal.

— Alec Leach and Max Klemm scored goals in the first half to give Glenbrook South a 2-0 victory over Maine West on Sept. 6.
Klemm and David Joseph had the assists, while Chase Swaringen pitched the shutout in goal.
Evanston 1, Highland Park 0
— Highland Park turned in some top-notch defense, but it wasn’t enough in the team’s 1-0 setback to host Evanston on Sept. 6.
“It was a hard-fought game,” said HP head coach Blake Novotny. “Alex Bramson did well in goal. And Justin Nedoss and Tommy Quirk defended well in the midfield.”
HP’s had a couple of opportunities on offense but couldn’t convert.
Loyola 7, Bishop McNamara 0
— Sean Hickey came up with a hat trick as Loyola took down visiting Bishop McNamara 7-0 on Sept. 6. The other LA goals were scored by Nick Roscoe, Jilian Hilpusch, Roger Akela and Jonas Madison.
Hickey and Roscoe also were credited with assists.
Stevenson 4, Lake Forest 1
— Taddeo Galli continues to find the back of the net. However, Lake Forest dropped a 4-1 decision to host Stevenson on Sept. 6. Galli’s second goal in as many games came on an assist by Joey Williams.
New Trier 2, Deerfield 0
— Al-ameen Salako and Will Felitto scored goals as host New Trier (3-3-1) handled Deerfield 2-0 on Sept. 6. Felitto also had an assist. The other assist was credited to Matt Gallo.
Sam Warden earned the shutout in goal. He had three saves.
Titan Invite
— Loyola took runner-up honors in the Glenbrook South Titan Tournament on Sept. 3, when the Ramblers came up short against Wheeling 2-1. The team’s lone goal was scored by David Gripman on a feed from Julian Hilpusch.
In earlier action on Sept. 3, Sean Hickey had two goals and two assists to lead LA to a 5-0 victory over Schurz. Gripman also had a goal and an assist as did Matt Salter. The other goal was scored by Christian Jimenez on a helper from Charlie Pasquesi. David Moreno-Hirsch picked his first shutout of the season.
On Sept. 1, in second round action, the Ramblers edged Stevenson 2-1 on goals by Gripman and Nick Lew. LA goalie Jack McMenamin finished the contest with six saves.
And in the tourney opener on Aug. 31, GBS and Loyola played to a 0-0 tie. McMenamin had seven saves for Loyola.
Chase Swaringen made two stops for GBS.
Meanwhile, Glenbrook South closed out play in the Titan Invite by topping Mundelein 2-0 on Sept. 3. Damian Pudelko scored both goals for the host team. Jeremy Weber and Grady Burch were credited with assists, while Mike Hatfield earned the shutout in goal.
Earlier in the day, GBS played Stevenson to a 0-0 tie. Chase Swaringen picked up the shutout in goal. He had two saves.
On Sept. 1, GBS exploded with six first-half goals and wound up beating Schurz 7-0. The goals were scored by Pudelko, Kai Erber (2), Max Klemm, Jonathan Lee, David Joseph and Gabe Diculesco. Burch, Jacob Boner, Alex Leach, Jimmy McMahon, Gavin Morse and Alex Bergin had the assists, while Mike Hatfield had the shutout in goal.
Northside College Showcase (Final Round)
— Host New Trier capped off play in the Northside College Showcase by edging Lyons 1-0 in the third-place game on Sept. 3.
Al-ameen Salako came up with an unassisted goal for the Trevians (2-3-1).
Sam Warden earned the shutout in goal. He collected four saves.
Meanwhile, Glenbrook North took second place after falling to St. Charles East 2-0 in the title game on Sep. 3.
Vernon Hills 3, Lake Forest 1
— Taddeo Galli scored Lake Forest’s lone goal in its 3-1 setback to host Vernon Hills on Sept. 1. Jake Danneker was credited with the assist.
Leyden 4, Highland Park 0
— Highland Park dropped a 4-0 decision to visiting Leyden on Aug. 31.
The Giants (2-4) allowed all four goals in the final 30 minutes of the contest.
Northside College Showcase (Round 3)
— Glenbrook North defeated Libertyville 2-0 in the third round of the Northside College Showcase on Aug. 31. The Spartans, who are the tourney’s reigning champs, will take on St. Charles East in the title game on Sept. 3 (3 p.m.) at New Trier’s Northfield Campus.
Meanwhile, Sam Rutherford came up with seven saves in New Trier’s 1-0 loss to St. Charles East in the third round of the Northside College Showcase on Aug. 31.
Lake Forest 1, North Shore Country Day 1
— Lake Forest and visiting North Shore Country Day played to 1-1 tie on Aug. 31. NSCD went ahead 1-0 in the first half. Cameron Litzsinger of the Scouts came up with the equalizer on a feed from Richard Mercer.
Northside College Showcase (Round 2)
— Glenbrook North stayed unbeaten in the Northside College Showcase by beating Niles West 6-0 on Aug. 29. Jackson Grabill led the Spartan attack with two goals, including a penalty kick. The other goals were scored by Timmy Iscra, Sahil Modi, Max Weiss and Matt Metzger.
Ryan Golde finished the game two assists. The other helpers were credited to Weiss and Sam Heydt.
Gabe Zorilla (3 saves) and Daniel Spencer (1 save) shared the shutout.
Meanwhile, New Trier (1-2-1) dropped a 1-0 decision to Waukegan on Aug. 29. Sam Rutherford came up with four saves while giving up one goal.
Lane Tech 3, Highland Park 0
— Highland Park came up with a valiant effort, but it wasn’t enough against host Lane Tech on Aug. 29.
Seven starters sustained injuries in HP’s 3-0 setback to a talented Indians squad.
“The boys battled hard,” said HP head coach Blake Novotny. “We were down 2-0 until the last minute of the game.”

North Shore Shootout (Finals)
— Two quick second-half goals by Joey Thomas went a long way in lifting Lake Forest Academy to a 4-1 victory over host Lake Forest in the title game of the North Shore Shootout on Aug. 27.
Following a scoreless first half, Thomas put the Caxys ahead 1-0 in the second minute of the second half on an assist by Jaleel Gray. Thomas made 2-0 four minutes later on a feed from Dieter Villegas.
The Scouts cut that lead in half moments later in rather spectacular fashion, when Chris Wasser popped in a long header. Toby Frost was credited with an assist.
LFA put the game away on goals by Luis Arreola (penalty kick) in the 18th minute and Ian Strudwick in the 20th minute. Nat Shattock got the assist on LFA’s fourth goal.
Solid goaltending by Brede Baldwin sealed the win for LFA.
The Caxys placed three players on the all-tournament team: Shattock, Baldwin and Andrew Ryder. Wasser, who finished the tourney with three goals, earned all-tourney accolades along with LF teammates Daniel Hanson and Christian McCauley.
Meanwhile, in other tourney action, Highland Park (2-2) topped Deerfield 4-2 in the seventh-place game. Carmel Catholic took down Dundee-Crown 7-2 for third place, while Round Lake got by Lakes 3-1 in the fifth-place contest.
Ethan Ochoa had two goals and two assists in HP’s win over Deerfield and earned all-tournament recognition. Teammate Mason Kimbarovsky had one goal and one assist, while Rodrigo Pozo and Tommy Quirk had one assist each.
The other all-tourney selections were Round Lake’s Alejandro Sotelo, Dundee-Crown’s Jeremy Jareckyj, Carmel’s Rob Rao, Deerfield’s Lucas Grobart and Lake’s Cam Beezley.
Northside College Showcase (Round 1)
— New Trier got into the win column for the first time this fall, when the host Trevians (1-1-1) downed Buffalo Grove 2-0 in the opening round of the 2016 Northside College Showcase on Aug. 27.
Ryan Krueger and Al-Ameen Salako scored the goals on assists by Michael McCue and Quentin Bendetto.
Junior Sam Warden picked up the shutout in goal. He collected four saves.
Glenbrook North also picked up a win in the Northside College Showcase, downing Lyons 3-1 on Aug. 27. Jackson Grabill, Sahil Modi and Timmy Iscra scored the goals. Robbie Fraser had two assists. Kamil Barabas also had an assist. Gabe Zorilla had seven saves in goal.
Loyola 3, Northridge Prep 0
— Sean Hickey, Nick Lew and David Gripman scored goals as Loyola took care of visiting Northridge Prep 3-0 on Aug. 26.
Hickey’s goal was assisted by Lew, while Gripman’s goal came off a feed from Hickey. Lew’s goal was unassisted.
Goalie Jack McMenamin recorded his first shutout of the season.
Glenbrook South 5, North Shore Country Day 1
— The Max factor.
Max Klemm was credited with three assists in Glenbrook South’s 5-1 victory over host North Shore Country Day on Aug. 25. Two of his helpers led to scores by Jacob Boner. He also set up Alec Leach’s goal.
Kai Erber and Josh Shin were GBS’s other goal scorers. Erber, who now has four goals on the season, made an unassisted goal, while Shin was fed by David Joseph.
The net duties were handled by Chase Swaringen (40 minutes, 0 goals) and Mike Hatfield (40 minutes, 1 goal allowed).
North Shore Shootout (Round 2)
— Host Lake Forest and Lake Forest Academy came up with similar wins in Round Two of the North Shore Shootout on Aug. 25.
On one field, the host Scouts defeated Carmel Catholic 1-0 on penalty kicks. And, on another field, LFA topped Dundee-Crown 4-3 on PKs.
LF (2-0) won its PK session 4-1 on shots by Joey Williams, Jake Danneker, Christian McCauley and Daniel Hanson.
Riley Perkofski (5 saves) and John Walsh (6 saves) shared the goaltending duties.
LFA and Dundee-Crown battled to a 3-3 tie in regulation. The Caxy goal scorers were Ian Strudwick (2) and Luis Arreola.
And then, Strudwick, Joey Thomas and Andrew Ryder came up with PK goals. Dundee-Crown managed to make only two of its PKs. Brede Baldwin made two saves. Arreola had the other one.
Meanwhile, in other tourney action on Aug. 25, Highland Park dropped a 3-2 decision to Lakes while Deerfield fell to Round Lake 5-1. HP’s goals were scored by Tommy Quirk and Ethan Ochoa. Jeobany Marban had an assist.
New Trier 2, Fremd 2
— New Trier played Fremd to a 2-2 tie on Aug. 25 in the team’s home opener. Senior Kenji Nii and senior Michael Neuhaus scored goals for the Trevians (0-1-1). Will Felitto and JoJo Farina were credited with assists.
Sam Rutherford made three saves.
Glenbrook North 7, Foreman 0
— The Spartans improved to 2-0 with a convincing 7-0 victory over visiting Foreman on Aug. 23. Deng Deng and Alex Kahn scored two goals each. Sahil Modi, Kamil Barabas and Max Knebelkamp also got on the scoreboard.
The assists were credited to Knebelkamp, Robbie Fraser (2), Moe Lasso, Jackson Grabill and Sam Heydt.
Gabe Zorilla and Daniel Spencer shared the shutout in goal.
North Shore Shootout (Round 1)
— Host Lake Forest, Lake Forest Academy and Dundee-Crown scored wins on the opening round of the North Shore Shootout on Aug. 23.
Chris Wasser scored two goals as Lake Forest came from behind to edge Highland Park 2-1. He was assisted by Austin Pinderski and Quinn McGowan.
Highland Park’s lone tally came on a 30-yard free kick by Tommy Quirk.
LFA topped Deerfield 2-1 on penalty kicks. Assisted by Nat Shattock, Ian Strudwick scored LFA’s lone goal in regulation. The Caxys then claimed the win by making all five of their PK tries. Strudwick, Dieter Villegas, Andrew Ryder, Joey Thomas and Shattock did the honors.
Brede Baldwin, who had six saves in regulation, was the winning goalie for LFA. He saved three in the PK session only to have two of them called back for leaving the line early.
In the other tourney matchup, Dundee-Crown nipped Round Lake 2-1.
Loyola 4, Lake View 1
— Loyola opened the 2016 campaign in solid fashion by downing visiting Lake View 4-1 on Aug. 23. After falling behind 1-0, the Ramblers took control of the game on goals by Julian Hilpusch, David Gripman (two) and Roger Akela.
Hilpusch made it a 1-1 game after being assisted by Matt Salter. Gripman put the team ahead for good, when he scored on an assist by Collin Leider. He then added an unassisted goal to give the Ramblers a 3-1 advantage. Later in the game, Akela sealed the victory when he scored on an assist from Nick Lew.
Jack McMenamin earned the win in goal. He had six saves.
Glenbrook North 4, Wheeling 1
— Glenbrook North got off to a good start by downing host Wheeling 4-1 on Aug. 22. Junior Sahil Modi came up with two goals, including a penalty kick. Deng Deng had one goal and one assist, while Timmy Iscra added a goal and Max Krnebelkamp contributed an assist.
Senior goalkeeper Gabe Zorilla finished the game with six saves.
Glenbrook South 4, Rolling Meadows 1
— Hats off to Kai Erber.
Erber opened the season with a hat trick in Glenbrook South’s 4-1 triumph over host Rolling Meadows on Aug. 22.
He was assisted by Gavin Morse at 35:06, Philip Martin at 36:20 and Alec Leach at 48:13.
Martin had the team’s other goal off a feed from Max Klemm at 39:32.
Chase Swaringen played 60 minutes in goal, allowing one goal and coming up with two saves. Mike Hatfield finished out the game, earning one save.
Highland Park 2, Fremd 0
— Justin Nedoss and Ethan Ochoa tallied goals in Highland Park’s 2-0 season-opening road victory at Fremd on Aug. 22.
Nedoss opened the scoring by heading in a goal off a Rodrigo Pozo corner kick. Then, after a nice combination, Ochoa popped in a goal off a cross from Tommy Quirk.
Alex Bramson picked up the win in goal.
Conant 2, New Trier 1
— New Trier opened the 2016 season with a 2-1 setback at Conant on Aug. 23. Senior Louis Shaw scored the team’s lone goal on an assist by junior Will Felitto.
Sam Rutherford allowed two goals while coming up five saves.
