WILMETTE – Police responded to a 911 call on October 3 at 2:41 a.m. about a loud crash at the Shell gas station at 339 Ridge Road. Upon arrival an officer observed significant damage to a gas pump. A witness said a white Jeep crashed into the gas pumps and fled eastbound with a flat tire. Within minutes, an officer saw a vehicle matching that description parked in the alley behind 233 Catalpa Place.

Officers responded and took the driver, Christopher Morris, 20, of Wilmette, into custody. The Wilmette Police Department weekly incident report stated that while police were putting Morris in a squad car, he spit onto an officer’s face and resisted arrest.

Police charged him with one count of aggravated battery to a police officer, resisting arrest, driving under the influence, reckless driving, failure to give information after a crash, and other traffic-related citations. The suspect was held overnight for bond court.

Note: A criminal charge represents merely an accusation; defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
