New Trier Township Assessor Jan Churchwell
New Trier Township Assessor Jan Churchwell and Deputy Assessor Leonard Shifflett will host two outreach programs to help residents understand and navigate the ever-confusing Cook County residential property tax system. This is NOT “Why Do You Pay Property Taxes?” It is a chronological, step-by-step presentation of annual procedures by the Cook County Assessor’s and Treasurer’s offices.
The program will be offered twice in order to reach more residents. These free sessions will be held at the New Trier Township building, 739 Elm Street, Winnetka, on the following dates:
• Thursday, November 10, 2016 at 7:00 p.m.
• Saturday, November 19, 2016 at 10:00 a.m.
Come learn about the multiple pieces and timing of the Cook County property tax appeals cycle. Assessor Churchwell will also explain the differences between appealing to the Cook County Assessor’s Office and to the Cook County Board of Review, as well as the basics of the mysterious “PTAB” (Property Tax Appeal Board) and how it fits into the cycle. Exemptions, appropriate forms, and online resources designed to streamline the process will also be covered.
