
Sandra Hart
Sandra Hart of Lake Bluff fought off a spirited challenge from Ann Brennan, also of Lake Bluff, to win re-election to her District 13 Lake County Board seat in the November 8 general election.
Hart won 6,251 votes or 56.96 percent to Brennan’s 4,723 (43.04 %) to earn a second term representing all of Lake Bluff as well as parts of Gurnee, Waukegan and Wildwood.
“I feel fortunate to do the job I love and work on issues that directly impact families like mental illness along with people’s concerns with high property taxes,” said Hart.
The race turned contentious at times. Hart said she heard from voters they were offended by the Brennan’s negative campaigning. Hart said she was glad people disregarded attacks against her.
There were a number of other contests affecting North Shore residents including for the United States House of Representatives, the Illinois State Senate, the Illinois House of Representatives, county-wide positions in Lake County where North Shore residents were candidates and other county board races.

United States Congress
Former Rep. Brad Schneider (D-Deerfield) defeated Rep. Robert Dold (R-Kenilworth) to retake the 10th Congressional District seat Dold captured from Schneider in 2014. The two of them have competed for the right to represent the district for the last three elections.
Schneider amassed 147,299 votes for 52.48 percent of the tally to 133,383 or 47.52 percent for Dold. The 13,916-vote margin was the wdest in their three campaigns.
In the 9th Congressional District, Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Evanston) was re-elected to her 10th term by dispatching Joan McCarthy Lasonde of Wilmette. Schakowsky accumulated 66.15 percent of the vote to Lasonde’s 33.85.
Illinois General Assembly
State Sen. Julie Morrison (D-Deerfield) was re-elected to her second term representing the 29th District with 58.96 percent of the vote. Her opponent, Oakton Community College Trustee Benjamin Salzberg of Northbrook, got 41.04 percent.
In the 18th House District, Rep. Robyn Gabel (D-Evanston) got 63.98 percent of the vote for a victory over former Winnetka Village President Jessica Tucker with 36.02 percent. State Rep. Scott Drury (D-Highwood) defeated Marty Blumenthal of Highland Park, 57.96-42.06, to return to his 58th House District seat.
Lara Fine of Glenview ran unopposed for re-election to her District 17 House seat.
Lake County
In a three-way race for Lake County coroner, Howard Cooper of Bannockburn is the apparent winner over the incumbent, Dr. Thomas Rudd of Lake Forest, and Michael P. Donnenwirth of Waukegan. Cooper has 53.02 percent of the votes counted so far and Donnenwirth has 46.98.
Rudd was a write-in candidate. Those votes have not been counted yet, according to Lake County Clerk Carla Wyckoff. She said they have to be hand tabulated one by one. They will be added up no later than Nov. 14.
Erin Cartwright Weinstein of Gurnee took 53.34 percent of the vote for Clerk of the Lake County Court to oust incumbent Keith Brin of Highland Park. He had 46.66 percent. Lake County State’s Attorney Mike Nerheim was re-elected with 52.57 percent of the vote over Mark Stanton with 46.98.
Lake County Board
In an open seat race, Highland Park City Councilman Paul Frank won the District 11 county board position over Laura Lambrecht, also of Highland Park, with 70.1 percent of the vote. Mike Rummel of Lake Forest was unopposed for re-election to the District 12 position.
Lake County Circuit Court
Judge Mitchell Hoffman of Highland Park ran unopposed for judge in the fourth sub circuit. He was previously appointed to the job but voter approval was required to keep it.
