WILMETTE – Children who live within the boundaries of Wilmette School District 39, and will turn five on or before September 1, 2017, must register for kindergarten in January. Kindergarten registration is happening earlier than in the past so families have more time to plan for their child’s time during the upcoming kindergarten year. All kindergarteners must be registered, even if they attend the District’s preschool or have siblings in District 39.
Additional details and necessary forms will be posted on the District’s website early in January. Required registration forms can be downloaded and completed at home to bring to school, or will be available at the school when parents come for registration.
Each elementary school will be open for two days in January for parents to come in and register their
child(ren).
- Thursday, January 19, 2016 – 9:30 am – 6:30 pm
- Friday, January 20, 2016 – 8:55 am – 3:15 pm
Parents need to bring their child’s birth certificate and documents that provide proof of residency – a list of acceptable documents will be found online in January.
A lottery will be held on January 26, 2017 to determine morning and afternoon kindergarten placements; all parents who have completed kindergarten registration will be notified by mail. Each of the four elementary schools in District 39 will hold Kindergarten Parent Orientation on Thursday, April 19, 2017 at 6:30 p.m. Parents will be able to learn more about the kindergarten program and ask questions.
District 39 serves portions of Wilmette, Glenview and Winnetka. A map of the District’s boundaries and the attendance area of each school can be found on the District’s website under the “About 39.”
