Students from New Trier High School and Loyola Academy who are members of the Student Alliance for Homeless Youth (SAHY), a student-led not-for-profit organization, will collect supplies for underprivileged children on Sunday, April 23 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The SAHY Supply Drive will take place at The Grand Food Center at 606 Green Bay Road in Winnetka.
The purpose of the SAHY Supply Drive is to provide healthy snacks for after-school tutoring programs at several family shelters in Chicago. Chicago Hopes for Kids provides students with the resources and encouragement to succeed academically, despite the challenges of homelessness.
Members of the Student Alliance for Homeless Youth are students at local high schools, including New Trier High School, Loyola Academy, and Maine South High School. The students work together to serve homeless youth in the greater Chicago Metropolitan area.
SAHY is a 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit corporation founded in 2010 and was inspired by the belief that all children have a right to shelter, food, education and freedom from abuse and exploitation. SAHY’s three-fold mission is to:
- build awareness of the issue of youth homelessness
- help reduce educational barriers for these youths
- provide service and outreach to homeless youths

- Service Projects, such as providing school supplies for shelter children, and supplies for teens living on the streets
