Central Suburban South Meet
— New Trier: The Trevians entrants went 1-2 in four events and won two other races at the league meet in their home water on Feb. 13, capturing the team title by more than 100 points. The host school tallied 477 points at the six-team meet, ahead of Glenbrook South (366) and Evanston (341.5).
NT sophomore Charlie Scheinfeld had a day, quite a day. He swam on a pair of victorious relays (200-yard medley, 200 freestyle) and touched first in the 100 free (47.33) and in the 100 breaststroke (57.94). He joined classmate Ryan Gridley and seniors Danny Brooks and Riley Mech for a time of 1:36.19 in the 200 medley relay and combined with Brooks, Mech and senior Willie Kinsella for a 1:27.57 in the 200 free relay.
Brooks, Kinsella, Ryan Gridley and sophomore Patrick Gridley clocked a first-place 3:13.54 in the 400 free relay. Ryan Gridley (53.31), NT sophomore Tommy Wilson (53.34) and Patrick Gridley (53.82) finished 1-2-3 in the 100 backstroke.
The Trevians’ other top-three efforts: 200 medley relay (second place, 1:36.78 — Wilson, senior Maxwell Robertson, junior Phillip Srivastava and senior Ryan Wipperfurth); Kinsella (second, 200 free, 1:45.47); junior Jacob Kaminsky (second, 200 IM, 1:59.14; second 100 breaststroke, 59.92); Brooks (second, 100 butterfly, 54.08); 200 free relay (second, 1:28.46 — Patrick Gridley, sophomore Pierson Ohr, Wipperfurth and junior Jack Walter); Patrick Gridley (third, 200 free, 1:46.62); Ryan Gridley (third, 200 IM, 1:59.91); Ohr (third, 50 free, 22.46); and Walter (third, 500 free, 4:49.31).

— Glenbrook South: Junior Sam Iida’s meet-record 4:36.33 in the 500 free punctuated the Titans’ runner-up showing in the team standings at the CSL South Meet. The previous mark in the event, set by New Trier’s CJ Smith, had stood since 2010. Iida, the reigning state champ in the 500 free, overwhelmed the field in NT’s water last weekend, topping runner-up and senior teammate Tommy Hagerty (4:46.79) by more than 10 seconds.
Iida also sped to first place in the 200 IM (1:52.47) and swam on a pair of top-three relay crews (400 free, 200 medley). Iida and Hagerty collaborated with junior Joseph Park and senior Sam Salganik to post a runner-up time of 3:14.85 in the 400 free relay; Iida, senior Byron Mandell, Salganik and junior Jack Wells went 1:37.64, third place, in the 200 medley relay.
Hagerty triumphed in the 200 free (1:43.94), and Salganik silvered in the 100 free (48.09). Three other Titans entrants placed third: senior Patrick Tener (diving, 404.5 points); Park (100 butterfly, 54.17); and Mandell (100 breaststroke, 1:01.13).
GBS vies for state berths at its sectional on Feb. 20.
Highland Park vs. St. Ignatius
— The visiting Giants went up against one of the top teams in the Chicago Catholic League on Dec. 29 and definitely held their own. They lost 98-85 to St. Ignatius.
The meet started off in fine fashion for HP, when Andrew Vorobev, Allan Tran, Levy Nathan and Hugh Laedlein teamed up win the 200 medley by nearly two seconds (1:41.64).
Vorobev also was victorious in two individual events: 200 IM (2:05.89) and 100 backstroke (56.71).
Tran picked up a first in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.42) and a second in the 200 IM (2:08.06), while Levy won the 500 freestyle (4:50.42) and placed second in the 200 free (1:48.89).
Highland Park v. Wheaton Co-op
— Highlighted by Levy Nathan, Allen Tran and Hugh Laedlein, HP claimed a 99-85 victory over visiting Wheaton Co-op on Dec. 8.
Nathan took first in two individual events: 200 freestyle (1:47.11) and 500 free (4:51.81). Tran matched Nathan by winning the 100 free (51.10) and 100 breaststroke (1:03.10). Laedlein was the top swimmer in the 50 free (22.93).
Tran and Laedlein also teamed up with Andrew Vorobev and Adam Grobelny to win the 200 medley relay in 1:42.00.
HP’s winning quartet in the 200 free (1:32.84) featured Laedlein, Tran, Nathan and Alex Grigorovich.
Vorobev, a freshman, also had two runner-up showings: 200 IM (2:03.57) and 100 backstroke (55.62).
Steven Sirois came up with a second-place finish in the 500 free (5:29.28).
