SCOREBOARD WATCHING: GOLF
Lake Forest’s Lowell Weil, III ended up with a top-three finish in the MAJGT Kenosha Classic on July 7.
The 17-year-old shot a 145 (70-75) on the Kenosha Country Club course, three strokes behind Kenosha’s Mark Laken and one stroke in back of Jack Blair of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin.
Glenview’s Jarrett Prchal, who will be a senior at Glenbrook South, carded a 147 to take sixth place.
Highland Park’s Joseph Harrigan (class of 2018) came in seventh (148).
In girls play at the Kenosha Classic, Glenview’s Hanna Tanaka, who will be a junior at GBS, shot a 158 to finish sixth.
Kimberly Stafford of Lake Forest placed seventh (160), while Winnetka’s Tatum Koehn finished in a tie for 11th (170).
The winner was Caroline Smith of Inverness (143).
State Junior Amateur
— Jack Crawshaw ended up with a top-10 finish in the three-day 48th Annual Illinois State Junior Amateur Championship at Makray Memorial Golf Club in Barrington.
The Winnetka native (class of 2019) shot a 74 in the final round on June 29 to finish with a 54-hole score of 224. He shared 10th place with Wheaton’s Luke Armburst.
According to his web site, Crawshaw attends Montverde Academy and the Bishops Gate Golf Academy in Florida (see his website: jackcrawshaw.com).
Hinsdale standout Brendan O’Reilly, who will golf at the University of Illinois, took the title with a 213, four strokes better than Geneva’s Tyler Isenhart.
Lake Bluff’s Connor Polender and Northfield’s Justin Choi carded 226s to wind up in a tie for 12th, along with Hoffman Estates’ Timothy Lim and Lincolnshire’s Jackson Bussell.
Loyola Academy grad Connor Prassas, last year’s champ, finished with a 229 (tied for 19th).
MAJGT Girls Championship
— Loyola Academy grad Margaret Hickey earned medalist honors at MAJGT Girls Championship at the Flossmoor Country Club on June 28-29.
The Glencoe resident came up with a two-round total of 161 to edge Prospect Heights’ Adrienne Rohwedder (162). Hickey shot a 77 on the Day Two.
Glenview’s Sophia Lau (class of 2018) placed sixth in the tourney (88-78—166), while Glencoe’s Rachel Rhee, who will be a senior at New Trier, took seventh (168).
MAJGT Classic at Highlands of Elgin
— Wilmette’s Lilly Gentzkow (class of 2019) placed third in the 12-18 girls division of the MAJGT Classic at Highlands of Elgin tourney on June 19-20. She opened with an 88 and closed with a 90 to finish one stroke behind runner-up Madison McCoy of Batavia. St. Charles’ Emma Hayes won the event by 11 strokes (166).
In boys bracket, Winnetka’s Christopher Lee shot a 155 (77-78) to finish in sixth place. Geneva’s Devin Johnson was the medalist (145).
MAJGT Championship at Harborside
— Two Lake Forest golfers — Jason Folker and Michael Seaman — turned in solid performances at the MAJGT Championship at Harborside International in Chicago on June 13-15.
Folker and Seaman shared runner-up honors (218) with two other players: Peter Tyler Po of Ridgewood, New Jersey and Carmeron Karney of Crystal Lake. Port Byron’s Tyler Bussert shot a 213.
Glenview’s Aaron Chong (class of 2020) came in ninth (221).
Highland Park’s Max Golding (class of 2019) finished in a tie for 11th (224), while Northfield’s Benjamin Scherman (class of 2018) took 13th (225).
MAJGT Second City Classic
— Lake Bluff’s Connor Polender claimed medalist honors in the MAJGT Second City Classic at Ravisloe Country Club on June 7-8. He won the title by four strokes (139).
In girls action, Winnetka’s Penelope Tir and Glencoe’s Rachel Rhee carded 150s to share third place behind Hinsdale’s Roshannah Gaur (146) and Wheaton’s Hadley Moritz (149).
Glenview’s Sophia Lau and Winnetka’s Audrey Tir finished in a tie for eighth place (157) with Naperville’s Lauren Nay.
