Residents in Wimette and Glenview reported “ruse burglaries” to their respective police departments in recent days. In
Wilmette at 915 Manor, according to the village’s police blotter, a ruse burglary occurred between 3 and 3:10 p.m. on August 10. A resident reported that when she arrived home from a walk, a man exited a van, identified himself as an employee of the “Wilmette Water Works” and stated that due to area construction, a water main had ruptured and he needed to “check her water for contamination.”
The resident took him into the house and turned on faucets. After he left, she discovered that $500 in U.S. currency, $2,000 in travelers checks and a credit card were missing from a second floor filing cabinet, and some items in the bedroom were out of place.
The resident described the individual as about 30 to 40 years old, dark complexion, about 5 ‘7” tall with an average buid..
In Glenview on August 9 at 2:21 p.m., a resident in the 900 block of Higland Lane reported that someone pretending to be a new neighbor lured the resident into the backyard. Meanwhile, the resident said, another person entered the residence and took money and jewelery. The reported loss is more than $3,000.
