In the true spirit of the Girl Scout motto “to help people at all times,” members of Wilmette Troop 45167 did just that this past weekend. Adult leader Todd Shissler, numerous parents, and Brian Leverenz, Community Service Administrator at New Trier Township joined together to coordinate a two-day collection drive at the Jewel-Osco store at 411 Green Bay Road. Mr. Leverenz commented, “This was a hugely successful event. The girls were diligent about sharing “pantry wish list” flyers with shoppers entering the store, and their efforts really paid off.”
The hard work of these wonderful Girl Scouts will provide supplemental groceries to numerous families and senior citizens along the North Shore struggling to make ends meet. New Trier Township is presently in the midst of organizing its annual Thanksgiving and December holiday meal programs for food pantry clients.
If interested in donating cash or food items to help support the New Trier Township Food Pantry, please phone Brian Leverenz at (847) 446-8203.
