Loyola Academy’s Lilly Wehman, a varsity player since freshman year, needed to block just one shot in her team’s 54-44 victory over visiting Niles West on Dec. 23.

Mission accomplished.

The 6-foot-2 forward senior, a Georgetown University recruit, swatted down a shot in the first half to become the all-time leading shot blocker for the LA girls basketball program. Her 188th career block eclipsed the record held by 2015 graduate Sarah Elston.

It was that kind of night for LA, which improved its overall record to 11-1.

There’s a lot of good things going on with these Ramblers.

They’re entertaining.

They were darn near flawless in the second quarter, when the hosts outscored Niles West 21-8.

Scoring is not everything — especially with junior Julia Martinez. In the second period, she had five rebounds, three assists, one steal and one block while scoring zero points.

Martinez, a future Division I player, ended the game with two points, eight rebounds and eight assists.

After coming out of a post-game meeting, the 5-10 point guard immediately was greeted by a recruiter from Boston College. Other scouts, including DePaul, also were in the gym.

Celia Satter, who also figures to play at the next level, continues to impress. The 6-0 junior connected on four three-pointers to lead all scorers with 19 points.

Satter currently is averaging 15.0 points and 5.6 rebounds per game.

Three-point shooting ace Erin Dillon showed off her shooting touch in that second quarter. She scored eight of her 12 points in those eight minutes.

LA head coach Jeremy Schoenecker also liked what he saw from his reserve corps. Sophomore Addison Eberling came off the bench to tally seven points, while freshman Isabella Ogliore had four points and three rebounds.

A night earlier, LA won its 10th game of the season by downing visiting Taft 59-38.

The Ramblers will playing in a tournament in Naples, Florida next week.
