Loyola continues to flex its muscle.
The undefeated Ramblers knocked off previously unbeaten Fenwick 52-21 on Sept. 23.
The host Friars, now 4-1, entered the game averaging 40 points per game. Two of their wins came against a pair of reigning champs: Montini (Class 6A) and Chicago Phillips (4A).
But Loyola, who won last year’s Class 8A state title, proved to be too much for Fenwick. The Ramblers (5-0) put up 28 points in the second quarter and wound up cruising to victory.
The Ramblers used a balanced attack to net 25 first downs and 444 yards.
Thanks to Kyle Rock (12 carries, 97 yards) and Hamid Bullie (13-92), LA finished with 205 rushing yards. Rock had touchdown runs of 16, 12 and 11 yards. Bullie added a four-yard score.
Rock also came up with 63-yard kick return, which set up Bullie’s TD.
Tommy Herion continues to be phenomenal at quarterback. He completed 20 of 24 passes for 239 yards with no interceptions. He tossed TD passes to Jake Marwede (6 yards) and Jack Martinus (12 yards).
Marwede, who also added a one-yard TD run in the fourth quarter, ended up with five receptions for 80 yards, while Martinus had six grabs for 50 yards.
The leading receiver was David Terrell (6 catches, 92 yards).
Patrick Kramer also helped LA’s cause. He was the first to put points on the board, when he nailed a 24-yard field goal in the first quarter.
Defensively, the Ramblers allowed 15 first downs and 285 yards. Cornerback Ryan Lin-Peistrup had two interceptions.

— A couple of high-powered offenses went at it, when Glenbrook North hosted Highland Park in a key Central Suburban League North Division game on Sept. 23.

Junior Jimmy Karfis had a sensational outing for GBN (5-0). He rushed for 181 yards on 22 attempts with four touchdowns.
An 83-yard TD run in the opening quarter was one of his head-turning plays. His other one came in the second quarter, when he surprised the Giants with a 67-yard TD pass to TJ Weinzimmer.
GBN’s air attack also featured a 55-yard TD catch by wideout Tommy Gertner in the first quarter.

Gertner wound up with three catches for 81 yards. Weinzimmer had three catches for 82 yards.
Big plays also were the order of the night for the Giants (3-2). Senior star DJ Penick opened the scoring in this game with a heart-pounding 59-yard run on HP’s first series.
Penick ended up with 261 yards and two TDs. He also had a big play on defense, when he forced a fumble and teammate Nathan Korn picked up the loose ball and raced it into the end zone in the fourth quarter.
Jeremy Allen scored HP’s other touchdown and finished the game with 73 rushing yards.
GBN’s defensive leaders were Jerry Luc (12 tackles, fumble recovery), Luke Kincaid (10 tackles), Luke Amen (8 tackles), Brennan Hughes (8 tackles, 5-yard sack), Ethan Quayle (7 tackles, interception) and Matt Pawlowski (7 tackles, 2 tackles for loss).
